Language Change

I have decided to change my base programming language from python to java, as I have been able to get more help and utility out of java and its libraries. Also, enrolling in the elec5619 Object Orientated Applications course has introduced me to a few very useful tools. Trying to work on presentation due friday lately.

Discussed thesis with supervisor, Rafael introduced the topic of squid software. Squid is a proxy server and web cache daemon, and the idea is to use this to store all the information sent by the user through the web for collation. Obviously, this brings up invasion of privacy issues so it may be limited to lab use.

I am still trying to see whether I can host face book apps using tom cat based servers. I have asked a tutor for help on the subject and he reported that I could.

Apache Tomcat

This past week has been spent trying to install apache tomcat verison 6.0.29 onto my computer. I was faced with a few problems with my Java environment causing the installer to give errors. Thankfully, after reinstalling java, I have managed to correctly install and run tomcat. I will be using tomcat to host a virtual server for a testing and building environment for my applications.

I have returned to the refining of my aim. I would like to try to stay away from the actual diagnosis of users, perhaps giving the ability of users to indicate whether they have been diagnosed with psychological problems. I will focus more on the collection and categorisation of users and information. I am looking into "Market basket" analysis, which may be helpful in finding connections within research areas.
